In 2022, according to the latest RSF data, Greece is lower on the list than countries such as Burundi, Gabon, Botswana, Mongolia and others.
Greece has lost 38 places compared to last year in terms of press freedom, as it is in 108th place out of 180 countries, the newspaper writes. in.gr., according to relevant indicators tracked and published annually by Reporters Without Borders.
Overall ranking: 108th (up from 70th in 2021)
- 128th place in the safety index,
- 113th place in the economic index,
- 103 place in the social,
- 72nd place in the political,
- 70th place in the legal index.
As RSF notes, “Press freedom in Greece was severely affected in 2021 and 2022 when journalists were routinely prevented from covering issues ranging from immigration to the pandemic. In addition, the murder of an experienced police reporter Georgios Karaivaz in April 2021 remains undisclosed despite government promises of an early investigation.”
