Skiathos: the first French tourists arrived on a direct flight from Paris

This morning, April 23, the Greek island of Skiathos received its first direct flight from Paris with 137 passengers, opening a new tourist season.

The Transavia flight that took off from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris was, in fact, the discovery of a beautiful island for the French tourism market, which proves the dynamics of the destination, especially in this extremely critical post-COVID era.

The municipal authorities of Skiathos have been looking for a direct air connection to Paris for a long time, and thanks to the valuable cooperation of EOT and the head of the French Ministry of Tourism, Dimitra Voziki, they have managed to make the dream come true.

The Paris-Skiathos flight currently has 1 flight per week, with a second route to be added in June, July and August. The first tourists were met at the airport by Skiathos Mayor Thodoris Tzoumas and President of the Hoteliers Association Alexandros Efstatiou.

The guests were welcomed by activists of the Skiathos Women’s Association, offering travelers traditional local sweets. In addition, the gift included a brochure in French with a presentation of the destination, a USB with videos and photos. The guests were also given an “invitation” to municipal events and a handmade Easter candle.

With regard to the information “work” to attract tourists, the municipality of Skiathos for the first time launched a large advertising campaign in the Paris metro and cooperation for promotions with the airline “Transavia”. In a statement, Mayor Thodoris Tzoumas stressed that “the opening of the French tourism market is a historic moment for Skiathos.”
