Border guards from Snake Island: surrendered or died

Ukraine announced the capture by the Russian military of the Zmeiny Island in the Black Sea and the death of 13 border guards there. According to the Ukrainian version, the border guards refused to surrender and died heroically. Russia assures that all 82 border guards have surrendered.

Details: According to the recording, the Russians are demanding that the Ukrainian border guards who serve on Serpents’ Island surrender.

“I am a Russian warship. I propose to lay down our arms and surrender in order to avoid cowshed and unjustified victims. Otherwise, you will be bombed,” the enemy repeats twice.

Literally, the answer of the Ukrainian soldiers: “Russian warship, go to hell!”.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an evening video message that the border guards defending the island had died.

Direct speech: “On our Snake Island, defending it to the last, all the border guards died heroically. But they did not give in. All of them will be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously. Eternal memory to those who gave their lives for Ukraine.”

Russian Version: Russian Ministry of Defense claimsthat the island was captured and 82 Ukrainian military men who were in the garrison “voluntarily surrendered to a unit of the Russian armed forces. At present, they are taking a subscription refusing to participate in hostilities, they will be returned to their families in the near future,” said a representative of the military department .

At the same time, Moscow does not mention that the island was hit, and about the casualties among the military. There is no independent confirmation of the information – just like exact data on how many people were in the garrison in total, and what is currently happening on the island.
