In the house of the 78-year-old victim of yesterday’s powerful explosion on Singru Avenue, the police found cartridges and weapons.
During the inspection of the scene and investigative actions, a whole arsenal was revealed: more than a thousand cartridges, various caliber shells, a carbine, magazines, a knife, a revolver. Filed by the police, in response to a question about the origin of the weapon, the victim, who is in the hospital, replied that he was a member of the shooting club and had a license for a carbine.
A criminal case has been opened against the man, and a thorough search of the building continues. According to the police, he lived on the mezzanine (upper mezzanine), and on all other floors repairs were carried out and there were no residents there. According to initial reports, the cause of the explosion was gas leak. However, the house was not connected to natural gas, so its origin remains unclear.
The injured man has burns to his limbs. At first he was in Laiko, then he was transferred to a special burn unit at the Gennimatas hospital. Matina Pagoni, President of EINAP and Director of the 3rd Pathological Clinic, told the publication Newsbeastthat the burns were external and caused no complications.
Syngrou Avenue reopened to traffic that was closed to both streams because of the explosion and debris and glass fragments on the road. A powerful explosion in the very center of the capital, in a house at Siggro Avenue, 3, shook the nearby streets around 07:00 in the morning. The shock wave was so strong that window glass flew out on the opposite side of the avenue. Its sound was heard in many parts of Athens.
