Hunger does not threaten us now

The European Commission has developed and adopted an emergency plan of action in case a food crisis breaks out.

It guarantees food security in times of crisis, but that’s not all. It is planned to create a European Preparedness and Response Mechanism for this kind of crisis. The EFSCM will include experts on the sustainability of the food supply chain coordinated by the European Commission. They will exchange experience and up-to-date data, the press service reports:

“The contingency plan that was adopted today identifies existing gaps and proposes actions to improve preparedness across the EU.”

The action plan takes into account many factors: the impact of climate change, environmental degradation, health system risks, geopolitical shifts, cyber threats.

A key tool for achieving these goals in a pandemic is well-established cooperation between public and private structures. The European Union plans to involve relevant structures in the organization of a stable food security network – both at the level of the union and at the level of national and regional authorities in the member states.
