Greece heads for record high in 2024 tourism season


Greece is steadily gaining a strong position in the international tourism market.

According to Athens International Airport El. Venizelos, passenger flow in March 2024 reached 2 million people, which is 20.1% more than in March 2023. In particular, both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded the 2023 level by 12.6% and 23.5%, respectively.

Overall for the first three months of the year, the airport's passenger traffic reached 5.2 million passengers, an increase of 16.5%. Both domestic and international passenger traffic increased by 10.3% and 19.4% respectively. The number of flights at Athens International Airport reached 46,334 in the first three months of 2024, an increase of 12.8% compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Both domestic and international flights increased by 6.5% and 17.5% compared to 2023.

In March in hotels in the country and short-term rental properties observed higher occupancy than in the first two months of the year. In particular, the occupancy rate of Greek hotels reached 41% in January 2024 (compared to 38.1% in January 2023), and in February grew even higher, to 46% (compared to 43% in February 2023), according to data from the Institute of Tourism Research.
