Highest contribution to economic value added among countries EU recorded in the Greek accommodation and catering services sector.
A total of 1.9 million businesses operated in the accommodation and catering services sector across the EU in 2021, according to data provided by European statistics agency Eurostat on Tuesday. This number of companies represented 6.1% of all enterprises operating in the business economy during this period.
The EU accommodation and catering services sector employed 9.9 million people, generated €203.6 billion in added value and generated a net turnover of €446.0 billion in 2021. Thus, this sector accounted for 6.3% of people employed in the business economy in 2021 and accounted for 2.2% of value added.
After the leader – Greece – the second largest contribution to the value added of the business economy is recorded in Cyprus (6.0%), followed by Croatia (5.4%). The lowest shares were recorded in Slovakia (0.8%), the Czech Republic (1%), Poland and the Netherlands (both 1.2%).
From point of view labor employment the sector's contribution to the business economy was greater. It ranged from 19.6% in Greece, 13.5% in Cyprus and 9.5% in Spain to 2.8% in Poland, 3.3% in Slovakia and 3.9% in Finland.
