An area in the capital of Japan where people disappear (video)

This Tokyo area is not in tourist guides, and strangers should not go there – they are not welcome there.

Sanya is an area where people disappear writes BB.LV. It is located not far from Asakusa, and the landmark in its search is the Namidabashi intersection, says the telegram channel “Where to next?”

Many years ago, “burukamins” lived here – “unclean” people who became such either because of their profession (there were many butcher shops here, and butchers were considered not the best people), or because of their origin, or because that they just stayed on the street. There are many options for becoming a “burukamin”. Homeless and tired people came to the Sanya region and stayed here to live, finding their refuge. And closer to our time, Sanya has become “the area of disappeared people.”

In Japan, there are special companies that help people disappear from life, controlled by the Yakuza*. In the 90s there was a TV series about a similar company called “Night Flight”. Everyone has their own reasons for leaving the familiar world – some have debts, others have a feeling of shame before society in connection with any actions.

The company stages a kidnapping or murder and… the person disappears. Some of them can be found, most often in the Sanya area. Although in itself it is quite ordinary – with shops, hairdressers, cafes. And even housing prices for tourists here are among the lowest in Tokyo.

Some sources, describing the Sanya area, call it “the Tokyo ghetto” or “a concentration camp for old people,” but this is completely undeserved: quiet, calm, with half-empty streets and ordinary people living in “non-glossy” Tokyo. Walking through the cozy streets is quite interesting. Although… Strangers are not very welcome here… And the residents of Tokyo themselves call the Sanya area “a city of homeless people and chavs,” spoiling the appearance of the capital.

*Yakuza is a traditional form of organized crime in Japan, whose groups occupy a leading position in the country’s criminal world. Members of the Yakuza are also known as “Gokudo”. In literature and the press, the yakuza or its individual groups are often called the “Japanese mafia.”
