Near the island of Rhodes in southeastern Greece, a “mine” that sailed from Ukraine was washed ashore – that’s what local media called the object. A shiny, spherical object was spotted by a swimmer in the Soroni area, who found it and took it home.
A winter swimmer discovered and recovered a “mine” from the sea, which, according to information obtained by Mega TV, “traveled” from Ukraine and arrived in the Aegean Sea, eventually ending up off an island in the eastern Mediterranean.
Speaking to Mega TV, the swimmer said the coast guard told him to “move away immediately”. “When I saw it, it was beautiful and shiny. From a distance, it looked like something precious. This round object was lying on the beach, and the waves were passing over it. I picked it up just out of curiosity.” – said the man.
“I’ve never seen anything like this before. I can imagine what could have happened to me.” – added the shocked swimmer when he was told that it was a mine. According to him, after he took the “mine” from the shore to the beach, he posted the filmed video on social networks and, according to commentators, realized that it was
He immediately called the coast guard
“The coast guard told me to keep my distance, to move away. But the coast guard themselves didn’t know what it was.”, he noted. According to Mega TV, this is a “mine” that fell into the Mediterranean Sea from Ukraine after the explosion of a dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric station. Experts noted that it is possible that other mines found their way into the Mediterranean Sea.
However, later on Wednesday the local newspaper rodiaki.gr reported that the object, which was initially believed to be a mine, is part of a weapon system, as an examination showed. The object is spherical in shape, slightly smaller than a volleyball, white in color with bumps and is in good condition.
