Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov explained the idea of a “sanitary zone”, ignoring the fact that Russian targets are now being affected many kilometers deep into the country.
He said at a briefing on March 18 that Russia needs a buffer or “sanitary” zone on the border with Ukraine to prevent Ukrainians from attacking Russian targets. That is, he explained the words of Vladimir Putin that Russia at some point may create a sanitary zone in the adjacent Ukrainian territories:
“The President implies that against the backdrop attacks drones, against the background of artillery shelling of our territory, settlements on our territory, especially social facilities, residential buildings, measures will be taken to secure these territories. They can only be secured by creating some kind of corridor, some kind of truly buffer zone, so that any means that the enemy might use to strike would be beyond their reach.”
As is known, writes Korrespondent publication, Russian volunteer battalions have been conducting raids in the Belgorod and Kursk regions for several days now. They took control of several settlements, in particular villages Kozinka and Gorkovskoye in the Belgorod region. Several times Russian volunteers declared humanitarian corridors for civilians.
