President of Turkey R.T. Erdogan recently made an unprecedented statement on Cyprus, speaking to the Turkish military and declaring: “In 1974, we may have made a mistake and did not occupy the entire island. If we had gone south, there would be no North and South Cyprus today. But our intervention saved the Turkish Cypriots from mass destruction.”
This announcement is made for the first time and gives an idea of how the situation in Cyprus may develop in the coming years. Speaking about Turkey’s military power, he announced the start of construction of a second Turkish aircraft carrier and the mass production of drones of all types and all categories.

Why did R. T. Erdogan suddenly announce that he wants to end Cyprus, probably even before the end of his apparently last presidential term? Firstly, because the island controls the exit from Suez. Secondly, it creates a Turkish lake from Marmarida to Alexandretta. Third, it cuts Greece off from the Middle East if Cyprus falls. Why? Because Greece is losing its strategic depth, and Turkey can better control the gates of the Aegean Sea in the south, that is, the axis of Crete, Karpathos, Rhodes. This is a sea route that starts from Aden to Suez, from Suez to the Aegean Sea and from the Dardanelles to Istanbul and the Black Sea.
