Outrage reigns on Greek social media after a prosecutor called for the acquittal of 55-year-old businessman Ilias Mihos on charges of raping a 12-year-old girl in the central Athens district of Kolonos, as well as on charges of forced pimping and collecting proceeds from prostitution, citing insufficiency evidence.
In contrast, the prosecutor recommended that the girl’s mother be convicted in the sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor trial in 2022.
Ilias Mihos arrested in October 2022
The two main defendants are a businessman who operated a convenience store in Kolonos and the girl’s mother, who are alleged to have played a major role in the sexual exploitation of the child. The remaining 26 defendants are accused of having sexual contact with a minor as clients, the newspaper kathimerini.gr reports.
The last arrests were made in February 2023
Let us recall that initially the police investigation spoke of 213 clients who raped the girl, but the names of 187 suspects were apparently “lost” in the Greek judicial bureaucracy.
The prosecutor argues that Mihos should be found guilty of cruelty to a minor under 14 years of age by a person entrusted with the care of a person entrusted with his care, possession of pornographic materials involving a minor under 12 years of age without coercion or gain, assisting involvement of a minor in prostitution, as well as possession of weapons. In total, the prosecutor recommends that Mihos be found guilty on four counts and acquitted on three.

Have you finally seen where dating helped??? As if they would judge him…. (and why 187 people disappeared from the client list).
According to the prosecutor, the mother should be found guilty of distributing pornography, transmitting materials about a minor to other defendants and exploitation. An aggravating factor is that she was responsible for the care of a minor. The prosecutor emphasized that exploitation includes coercion and assistance through pressure, emotional manipulation and encouragement for the purpose of obtaining financial gain. In addition, the prosecutor sought to convict the mother for extortion against the ex-wife of Ilias Mihos.
The trial takes place in a mixed jury trial
In his testimony given a few days ago, Mihos denied all accusations and stated that was in love with a girl.
“I was in love with a 12-year-old girl, I had sex with her four times.”Ilias Mihos allegedly stated in his testimony, the publication reports pontiki.gr. He stated that he himself provided “expertise” and “assisted” their desires, without any financial gain, the publication adds.
The girl told authorities that he also took her to brothels, but most often she was raped by clients in cars.
Outrage on social networks
Prosecutor Ilias Mihos’ acquittal over doubts about crimes of rape and forced pimping has caused outrage among social media users.
“The prosecutor’s office today indirectly legalized pedophilia, since it did not discover the rape of a child by Mikhos, which means, obviously, it accepts his testimony that he “fell in love” with her and considers it legal… After all, no one disputes sexual contact with the girl. We are talking about absolute vomit” – wrote one of the users on the X website.
“I say it’s all the child’s fault. She should be in jail with her mother.”– another wrote ironically.

The child in her first statement… spoke about rape… and how she was forced… what else could force the prosecutor… not to listen to the child’s testimony… except the intention to hide the crime… 12 -year-old!!! child.
“According to the prosecutor, sex with a 12-year-old is not necessarily rape, and pimping can simply be ‘facilitation of pimping’. In other words, the girl wanted it. But is it possible? What a shame and how sad!”
Several users have expressed their discomfort as well as their doubts about how justice works in Greece and talk about an attempt at a cover-up.
“We live in a country where the phrase “Let the prosecutor intervene immediately” is a threat to the victim #kólovonos #12chroni”, – says one of the comments.
Activists have called for a protest at the Sepoglia metro station at 7pm on Wednesday. As expected, the MAT was sent to the protest area.
