More than 25,000 illegal immigrants are ready to land on Crete

According to data from the Greek border service obtained from illegal immigrants arriving and disembarking on the Greek coast, up to 25,000 migrants are expected to land on the southern coast of Crete in the near future.

According to the same information, this is exactly the number of people who have gathered on the Libyan coast, from where they plan to leave in the near future.

In this situation, the Ministry of Immigration is simply limited to processing foreigners in the well-known outback.

According to information from Crete, every day foreigners are transported to Attica on ferries, and from there they are distributed to various accommodation centers.

The government’s concern is not that 25,000 illegal immigrants are ready to land on Crete, but what will happen during the tourist season and how they will be transported to Attica, since ferry routes will be crowded due to summer traffic.

They will not be used as farm laborers as the government is expecting the arrival of 40,000 to 100,000 workers from various countries with which it wants to reach an agreement.

What will happen to the 25,000-odd illegal migrants arriving in Crete by sea is unknown, but every effort will be made to ensure that they remain in Greece permanently, like the thousands of others who have arrived since 2015.

In one day over the weekend, 220 illegal immigrants arrived in Crete in four separate ships.

It should be noted that in just 24 hours, 91 illegal immigrants arrived on the island of Gavdos. Moreover, on average, about 30-35 illegal immigrants arrive on the island every day, with an island population of 40 people.

Only on Tuesday, March 12, there was not a single landing, as the wind was blowing with force 7-8 Beaufort.

As weather conditions improve, boats are preparing to set sail again for the shores of Greece.

The government, for its part, does not want and will not offer a solution to the problem, since its main task is to transport them deep into the country, where everyone can be accommodated.
