"They tried to kill me": Ukrainian journalist A. Shariy announced an assassination attempt

On Wednesday, March 6, in Spain they tried to kill the famous Ukrainian blogger Anatoly Shariy and his wife Olga. He reported this on his Telegram channel. According to Shariy. unknown persons fired at his car from an automatic weapon with a silencer.

“Yes, they just tried to kill me and my wife. They tried to shoot at the car. An assault rifle with a silencer,” said Anatoly Shariy.

According to him, one person fired at the car, while another was probably in the wings, as he noticed someone following. He also noted that less than a week ago, Spanish security forces received information about preparations for the assassination attempt that took place today.

A Ukrainian blogger reported that the attack took place in the middle of the street. His guards are independently searching for weapons and cartridges at the scene, and also interviewing local residents. Shariy clarified that he managed to find witnesses who saw the attacker. At the same time, according to him, the Spanish police did not block the roads and interview people who were at the scene of the incident.

According to Shariy: “The intermediary in the murder is Svetlana Suchkova-Ilyushchenko. Lives in Spain, citizen of Ukraine. The police received this information a week ago. Nobody did anything. @boye_g Gonzalo, what should I do? They don’t ask neighbors. They don’t interview those who saw the killer, these people come to our house alone! They don’t do anything. They don’t exist. They didn’t kill me today, but they will kill me tomorrow. What’s happening? WHAT SHOULD I DO?”

Anatoly Anatolyevich Shariy is a Ukrainian journalist and video blogger. Founder of the online publication Shariy.net and the Shariy Party. Ukrainian media have repeatedly characterized Shariy’s activities as pro-Russian. Shariy also criticized the Russian opposition, in particular, against Alexei Navalny. In June 2019, Shariy announced the founding of the Shariy Party. On June 16, 2022, the Lviv court banned its activities.

On February 16, 2021, the Security Service of Ukraine announced Shariy was suspected of committing a crime under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – Part 1 of Art. 111 (Treason) and Part 1 of Art. 161 (Violation of the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds). On February 25 he was put on the state wanted list. On August 20, 2021, President Vladimir Zelensky enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions against Shariy.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Shariy continued his criticism of the Ukrainian government. In May 2022, Shariy was detained in Spain at the request of the Ukrainian authorities, but the extradition case was soon closed due to Ukraine’s failure to provide the necessary documents. On August 13, 2022, it became known that the Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office had launched an investigation against Shariy on suspicion of money laundering, but no real evidence was provided.

Summer 2023 Shariy was informed of a new suspicion of high treason: the investigation notes that he organizes pro-Russian PR campaigns from Spain, creates and distributes politically biased tendentious stories with anti-Ukrainian content.

On October 24, 2023, it became known from the media that in Roda de Bera (Tarragona, Spain) the house of blogger Anatoly Shariy pelted with Molotov cocktails. At this time, he and his wife were in the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia. Journalists noted that this was allegedly one of the most serious acts of violence to which the blogger had been subjected since his arrival in Spain.

Anatoly Shariy, in response, laughed at the accusations, declaring their absurdity and that all persecution is connected with his position against the current government in Ukraine, and invited those who wish to find a pro-Russian orientation in his statements, offering a large monetary reward for this. Judging by the fact that the money has not yet been issued, no one has found this.
