Turks send to Crete "boats" with illegal immigrants from Libya: "the island turns into "new Evros"

Türkiye continues to violate Queridi Pact And transport thousands of illegal immigrants on civil aviation flights from Istanbul to Libyato circumvent the agreement with EU, guaranteeing her 5 billion euros a year and it is beneficial to “get rid” of foreigners.

More than 160 illegal immigrants arrived in Crete within hours on three different “boats” and port authorities said the largest Greek island had become the new “Evros”!

From Saturday morning to Sunday morning, dozens of foreigners were transported from the Libyan coast to Greece

The number of foreigners who have arrived (or been shipwrecked and subsequently transported) to Crete since September last year is officially estimated at 2,000, but estimates are even higher! In conversation with neakriti.gr President of the Coast Guard Union of Eastern Crete Georgios Sfakianakis spoke about “new Evros”which “was created” on the island in recent months.

“Crete has become Evros”: every year a small village appears on the island

In the past five months alone, the coast guard has been called to deal with at least 25 incidents involving ships carrying dozens of illegal immigrants, Mr. Sfakianakis said.

“We have recently seen an increase in migration flows. After inspections in the eastern Aegean in the previous period, we saw that these people are trying to find another route. And then they began to move further north, trying to penetrate from Evros. However, the Greek police have erected a wall at the border in Evros. And from that moment, since they could not move and cross Greece through Evros, they began to look for another passage.

So we saw that they were moving south and coming from Libya, and that’s why we’ve seen an increase in migration flows recently. In addition, in connection with the events taking place in the Middle East, it should be expected that migration flows will increase from now on.

We have repeatedly called for the restoration of the port station of Kastrios in southern Crete because the coastline runs from the area of Ierapetra, where the port is located, to the area of Kalon Limenon, where the port station is located, and although there are about 70 nautical miles between them, there is no port station. The port station “Λιμενικό Καλλικράτη” that existed in 2009 ceased its work.

Therefore, it is urgent to strengthen this area south of Crete, and we are carrying out the activities that are happening today. In addition, we call for the strengthening of watercraft to assist the coast guard. Here in Crete, and specifically in Heraklion, there is a 45 year old (coast guard) vessel. There is another ship that is 35 years old. We ask for reinforcement.

I’m talking to you about the eastern part of Crete. But in addition to the prefectures of Heraklion and Lasithi, we have other incidents – in Gavdos, in Sfakia, in the prefecture of Chania, and, in fact, a new Evros is being created,” says Mr. Sfakianakis, who is asking for more organic positions in the Cretan Coast Guard.

The Cretan Coast Guard Union, for its part, states:

“Continuous flows of migrants have apparently turned southern Crete into a gateway. In particular, recently, when weather conditions in the Libyan Sea are favorable, there has been an almost simultaneous arrival of ships of questionable seaworthiness with migrants, which forces the port authorities of Heraklion, Chania and Rethymnon to be on alert.

Despite the fact that Crete seems to be the “promised land”, in fact there are services here that face the same problems as the port authorities of the eastern Aegean Sea. Port stations in southern Crete bear the brunt of detection and rescue, but most are understaffed and have outdated or even non-existent operational resources. In particular, the port stations of Paleochora, Chora Sfakia and Agia Galini are experiencing an acute shortage of personnel, the coast guard station in Gavdos is closed, the port of Chora Sfakia does not even have a pontoon, and the patrol car is already 24 years old.

In addition to the above, it is known that the floating operational assets of the port authorities of Crete, southern and northern, with their crews and officers, are constantly deployed to strengthen the port authorities of the eastern Aegean Sea to deal with the problem of migration, while Crete has become the target of migrant trafficking networks in European countries. As a result, the Central Port Authority of Chania, the Port Authority of Rethymno and the Central Port Authority of Heraklion, which are ultimately called upon to deal with incidents, are experiencing similar staff shortages.

Everything suggests that now arrivals will not only continue, but will also increase. If Crete’s port authorities want to cope with the phenomenon of migrant flows, they will have to staff the same as the islands of the eastern Aegean Sea.”

How Ankara deceived the EU by making money on migrants

As recently reported Athens news, D. Kairidis tried to hide the violation of the agreementwhich he concluded with Ankara so that it would not seem that the Turks had deceived Greece by declaring that they were poor “Egyptians”! In other words, so that it does not become clear that it is a “blank” paper without content. There has never been a massive “wave” of illegal immigrants from Egypt, and yet the Minister has discovered that there is one.

As for the poor “Egyptians”, the fact that they are not Egyptians is easily proven. It is enough to take fingerprints and send them to Egypt to make sure that they are not citizens of this country. But they don’t do this…
