Rescue work completed in Lisichansk: 28 people died (video)

A search and rescue operation was completed at the site of a building collapsed during shelling in Lisichansk, Severodonetsk district, Luhansk region, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. 10 people were rescued, 28 died, including one child.

The shooting occurred on Saturday, February 3, at approximately 2:20 p.m. According to the Russian side, the Ukrainian military fired at the bakery using the US-supplied HIMARS highly mobile artillery missile system. writes The Air Force said it could not confirm this information. Ukrainian authorities did not comment on reports of the shelling of Lysichansk.

However, in the Lisichansk city military administration, writes Ukrainian publication “Suspilne” reported that bread was baked in this building for the military, and meetings were also held there:

“The occupiers used the establishment in question for their own purposes. They ate there and held meetings. The bakery began to function after the occupation of the city. It was launched to bake bread for the front… The arrival was at the time when the occupiers had gathered there. The list of the dead that is circulating on the Internet consists mainly of collaborators, such as Firsov, who in March went over to the side of the occupiers. Locals also learned the name of the man who worked in the “tax service” created in the city.”

This is also confirmed by displaced people from Lisichansk – from one of the videos published by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations on Telegram, they recognized the establishment – a restaurant called “Adriatic”. It is located on the outskirts, towards the Lisichansky oil refinery. The bakery began operating there after the occupation of the city.

LPR authorities said that the condition of the four victims of the shelling of Lisichansk is assessed as extremely serious. And local telegram channels wrote that among the dead was a pregnant woman. According to local residents, the bakery destroyed by the attack distributed free water to residents of Lisichansk. “We collected water here. And they (the bakery owners) baked cakes and made sweets. They delivered cakes, pita bread, and bread throughout the city,” said one of the city residents, adding that she did not see the military nearby.

Military investigators from the Russian Investigative Committee suggested that the attack on the bakery in Lisichansk was caused by the HIMARS MLRS. The Ukrainian side did not give official comments at the time of publication. On February 4, a day of mourning for those killed was declared in the LPR. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow expects international organizations to “immediately and unconditionally condemn this attack.”

Lisichansk is located near the front line. Before the war, about 111 thousand people lived in the city. In the summer of 2022, Russia took control of the city.
