According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, an earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale occurred today at dawn, January 27, in the sea area north of Samosa.
The epicenter of the earthquake is located 25 km north/northeast of Vathy, near the coast of Turkey, and the depth of the source was 12.9 km.
Seismologist Efthymis Lekkas, commenting on the earthquake, noted that the seismic vibration came from a “branch” of the fault that caused the strong earthquake in 2020 in Samos. According to his estimates, it is unlikely that another strong earthquake will occur.
Let us remind you that earthquake data coming from the Athens Geodynamic Institute or the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute are solutions obtained using an automatic computer system, without the participation of a seismologist. They are constantly updated as new data becomes available.
