2 Georgians detained on charges of contract killings of Athens mafia bosses

Greek police announced the arrest of five people accused of murdering notorious crime bosses Yiannis Skaftouros and Vangelis Roumpetis. Two of the detainees are from Georgia.

ΕΛ.ΑΣ. began detaining murder suspects Yiannis Skaftouros and Vangelis Rumpetis. According to currently available information, a total of five arrests have been made, of which only two can lead to arrest. And all this under the pressure of facts that indicate that not a single charge has been brought against dozens of murders over the past six years!

The two defendants on whom arrest warrants have been issued are immigrants from countries of the former Soviet Union, and have been in custody 3 times previously. One of them is a 39-year-old Georgian whose fingerprint was found on the motorcycle used by the perpetrators of the murder of Yiannis Skaftouros in Skourtas (Boeotia), when it broke down and was abandoned by the criminals 500 meters from the house of the murdered man.

He was released from prison in 2019 after being accused of being part of a criminal organization that smuggled illegal immigrants. In 2015, a case was opened against him for involvement in the murder of a Georgian citizen and extortion. At the same time, according to the same police sources, some of those wanted are believed to have fled abroad and have already had international arrest warrants issued in their names.

Those arrested are also allegedly involved in the attempted murder of a Georgian expatriate, which occurred in July 2023 in Pieria.

Let us remind you that Yiannis Skaftouros was killed in April 2022: the executioners shot him, firing 15 bullets at the 55-year-old man. According to information available at that time, the killers were four people on two motorcycles. They stopped near the house, and two, putting on helmets, entered the yard where Skaftouros was with about ten relatives and friends, and fired 14 bullets at him from a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

The murders of 38-year-old Vasilis Rubeti and his 31-year-old brother-in-law Dionysis Mouzakitis took place in June 2023 in Korydallos: the criminals, who were in a black jeep, shot dead the first man in a Mercedes car owned by G. Alafouzos.

Then the second victim, who was in another Smart car, tried to escape and hid in the basement of a residential building. However, the criminals noticed him and shot him on the spot.

Let us remind you that the video recording made by a surveillance camera installed in the garage of the victim’s house shows how the criminals carry out their mission and take the lives of two within a minute. Apparently, they thought of everything down to the smallest detail. Both of them, like the recently murdered V. Zambunis, are united by involvement in fuel smuggling and “business” in fuel trading.
