Zakynthos: diesel fuel flows from the taps along with the water

This could be funny if it were not serious and possibly harmful to the health of the residents of Zakynthos: since Thursday afternoon, along with the water from the taps in dozens of households,… diesel fuel has flowed!

Local residents are outraged and are preparing to sue everyone who is to blame for not being warned in time.

According to official information, for an unknown reason, diesel fuel was found on the road surface near the municipal theater. Most likely, through a rupture in the central pipeline, it entered the central water supply of the city of Zakynthos.

However, residents complained that instead of immediately cutting off the water supply on Thursday afternoon, the water supply continued on Friday, even though residents filed a corresponding complaint the day before.

It should be noted that Zakynthos does not have a non-stop water supply, but houses have tanks in which they store water provided by the municipality at regular intervals. This means homes will likely require specialized tank cleaning, notes a local news site imerazante.gr.

Dionysis Tourkakis, president of the local water supply company DEVAZ, issued a statement on Friday informing residents of the measures taken and even warning that the city’s water supply would be interrupted for a week.

“We ask all citizens to avoid any use of water. While apologizing for any inconvenience caused, we remain at the disposal of citizens for any assistance and information in order to serve them and protect public health,” – the statement says, in particular.

According to an exclusive report imerazante.gr on Saturday morning, frustrated and angry residents of Zakynthos town are planning to file a lawsuit against all those responsible for “criminal negligence”because, according to them, those responsible continued to supply water through the network, knowing since the afternoon of the previous day (Thursday, January 11) that one part of the water supply network had a serious problem with diesel leakage.
