An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale occurred on January 16 in Kranidi, Argolis. The “shock wave” also reached Attica.
According to the Institute of Geodynamics, seismic activity was recorded on Tuesday morning near Kranidi Argolis. The earthquake occurred 16 kilometers southwest of Kranidi. The depth of the source is estimated at 14.5 kilometers.
There are no reports of damage from the earthquake yet, but there are reports that it was also felt in several areas of the capital.
In particular, residents of the Kallithea region (Athens) actually felt the tremors.
As noted, the earthquake was felt in Argolis, Corinthia, Laconia, the Argosaronic Islands and Attica.
It was preceded by six smaller earthquakes ranging in magnitude from 1.8 to 3.3 on the Richter scale.
Scientists are monitoring seismic activity in the area very closely.
As OASP President and Professor of the Department of Dynamic Tectonics, Applied Geology and Disaster Management EKPA Efthimios Lekkas noted in an interview, this region has low seismicity and for this reason it is here small magnitude earthquakes occur.
