Weather Service: Temperature drop on Saturday – Detailed snowfall map

Temperatures will rise temporarily on Thursday (11/1/24), mainly in Thrace and the southern islands, but temperatures are expected to drop again across the country from Friday (12/1/24), according to the Greek weather service.

Air masses of Arctic origin from northern Scandinavia and Russia are already moving towards the Balkans and will cause a significant drop in temperatures in Greece mainly on Saturday (13/1/24).

The map below shows the temperature forecast for Thursday (11/1/24) at an altitude of about 1500 meters – the level at which the movement of air masses is studied. The blue arrow shows the movement of Arctic air masses to the south, and the red arrow shows the movement of warm air masses from the central Mediterranean.

The second map shows the forecast temperature at the same altitude on Saturday (13/1/24). The cold air mass, highlighted in shades of blue, will sweep across much of Eastern Europe, where it will cause snowfall.

According to the forecast for Wednesday (10/1/24), snowfall in our country will be locally heavy in the eastern continental regions.
