Ukrainian children deported to the Russian Federation will receive Russian citizenship – Putin issued an order

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets said that they want to force children deported from Ukraine to become Russians.

He refers to Vladimir Putin’s order to grant Russian citizenship to Ukrainian children. The Ombudsman believes that this is being done to ensure that deported Ukrainian children do not “legally” remain in Russia:

“Yesterday, January 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed Order No. 11 “On determining certain categories of foreign citizens and stateless persons who have the right to apply for citizenship of the Russian Federation.” The order notes that orphans and children “those without parental care who are citizens of Ukraine can obtain Russian citizenship by Putin’s personal decision without taking into account all or individual requirements of federal legislation. An application for such citizenship can be submitted by the heads of Russian organizations in which the child is placed under supervision.”

Dmitry Lubinets reports, that when filling out the questionnaire, information about the location of the applicant is not even indicated, his contact information is not indicated, but only the address and contacts at the place of work. That is, for deported Ukrainian children who are in Russian institutions or in the care of Russian families, Russian citizens can apply for citizenship, which Putin will satisfy without any requirements. Ukrainian Ombudsman says:

“We understand the dire consequences of such actions, because the next step after they receive Russian citizenship will be the adoption of children as Russians, and after this – changing their personal data. At one point it may happen that not a single Ukrainian child will remain in the Russian Federation, because everything “They can become Russians within the next three months.”

Lubinets assured that, as the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, he will take all necessary measures to respond to the situation within the country and in the international arena, since the transfer of children from one national group to another, with forced granting of citizenship, is one of the signs of genocide.

The Ukrainian authorities have official data on the deportation of almost 20 thousand children to Russia. Thousands of Ukrainian children were forcibly deported to Russia, Dmitry Kuleba said at the UN General Assembly session in February 2023. The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called this practice genocide. Moscow denies the accusations.
