As was the case last year, so this year the sky of Athens on Christmas Eve, according to the custom of the “night of wishes,” was illuminated by hundreds of lanterns.
In the center of Athens, on Kotzia Square, many people once again lit up the sky with lanterns, creating a truly “magical” spectacle that “revitals” the city in the run-up to Christmas. The beautiful setting and the social event that has taken root over the last 4 years brought citizens and visitors together.
People were smiling and in high spirits. Having written a wish on a “flying lantern”, they took pictures, sending the pictures to friends and family to make them happy.
“The black sky and hundreds, hundreds of flying bright lights-lanterns, which rose so high up that they seemed like some kind of enchanting stars…. The whole sky was filled with them, the stars-lanterns slowly moved under the breeze, creating an unusually magical, enchanting picture of the living sky, as if the cosmos had woken up and was slowly dancing some kind of witchcraft dance…..,” a participant in the “Night of Wishes” wrote in her blog.
The sky filled with lights over the square near the city hall walls was captured in numerous photos and videos posted on the Internet.
