Gaza: son of former Israeli army commander killed

National Unity Party leader Benny Gantz announced on December 7 that the son of Israeli minister and former army chief Gadi Eizenkot had been killed during fighting in the Gaza Strip.

Members of Eisenkot’s party and Gantz joined the Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, formed in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and Israel’s declaration of war on the Palestinian movement. The Israeli army did not provide exact details of the death of 25-year-old Gal Meir Eizenkot, saying only that he was killed during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip.

“Together with all of Israel, I send words of support and strong hugs to Gadi and his entire family. We are all ready to continue to fight for the holy cause for which Gul died,” Benny Gantz said in a statement.

In his condolences, Netanyahu said he was shocked by the death of the Israeli minister’s son. Since the war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, a total of 89 Israeli soldiers have been killed in fighting, the Israeli military said in a statement.
