EL.AΣ: 900 arrests, 12,915 traffic violations


Over the past three days – from 1 to 3 December 2023 – targeted police actions have been carried out throughout the country as part of the implementation of the strategic plan of the Hellenic Police Headquarters to combat crime and improve the safety of citizens.

In this context, teams involving uniformed and non-uniformed police officers from various services and units have been active, taking into account local operational plans and paying particular attention to areas and localities where incidents of crime are increasing.

Thousands of checks

During the above actions, the entire country was checked 64,849 people and 48,711 vehicleswherein:

  • 2343 people were detained,
  • 900 people were arrested for various offenses,
  • 12,915 traffic violations were recorded,
  • 458 cars were immobilized and sent to the impound area,
  • 4 confiscated vehicles;
  • 53 violations of anti-tobacco legislation,
  • 19 cases of excessive noise levels have been opened.

In Attica

Targeted activities have been carried out in the wider Western Attica region to:

  • 3082 people checked,
  • 19 people were arrested
  • 507 violations of traffic rules were recorded.

In addition, in the Kifissia area, 206 people and 124 vehicles were checked, 5 people were detained, 1 was arrested, 69 traffic violations were recorded. In the area of ​​Agios Nikolaos Chalkida, 26 people were checked, 3 people were detained and 3 people were arrested for violating drug laws.

Thessaly and Northern Greece

Similar actions were carried out in areas of Thessaloniki, where 4 people were checked, 4 people were arrested, 4 people were detained for drug trafficking and 12 offenses were recorded for open-air trading.

Special police operations were also carried out in Thessaly, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in areas and towns with high crime rates. In particular, in Thessaly, in the areas of Trikala, Karditsa and Larisa, 168 people and 149 vehicles were checked, 4 people were arrested, 2 were arrested for insubordination, 65 traffic violations were committed and 6 vehicles were immobilized.

In Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in the areas of Drama, Kavala, Xanthi, Orestiada, Rhodope and Alexandroupoli, 295 people were checked, 232 vehicles were checked, 5 people were arrested, 6 people were detained, 26 traffic violations were recorded.

Purposeful police actions aimed at preventing and suppressing crimes and instilling a sense of security among citizens will continue with the same intensity, says the Greek police headquarters.
