In Madrid, a helicopter crashed onto the ring road (video)

Three people were injured when a helicopter crashed onto the ring road in Madrid. The consequences could have been much worse.

How reports El Pais, the crash occurred near the Ifema exhibition center, where the European Rotors aviation fair was held the day before. At 10:20, according to emergency services, a yellow plane with registration number F-HPUX crashed in the middle of the M-40 highway. A laundry worker near the crash site described the loud explosion:

“When I looked outside, I saw cars slowing down on the highway, and then a helicopter with its tail broken off. Thank God it was at that time, because if it had been after 1 p.m., it would have been tight.”

The man was referring to the heavy flow of cars leaving Madrid on Fridays along the M-40 highway.

There were two people in the helicopter: one was wounded with a minor head injury and left on his own; the second was pulled out by firefighters – he was suspected of having a broken hip. Both men were taken to hospital. The driver of the car driving along the highway was also injured – he received minor cuts from the broken windows of his car. He received medical assistance on the spot.

Firefighters carry out “risk control after checking that there is no fuel spill.” The General Directorate of Road Traffic has closed one lane in each direction of the M-40 highway to facilitate the work of emergency services.

The Pegaso team, responsible for airspace safety of the Civil Guard Command of Madrid, has taken over the investigation of the accident, the causes of which are being established.

The fair, which closed on Thursday after four days, is considered one of the largest in Europe and one of the most important in the helicopter aviation sector.
