The President of the Russian Federation called for large families (video)

Speaking at the plenary session of the XXV World Russian People’s Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Russians to give birth to seven or eight children.

Having many children, he noted, should become a new way of life for all peoples in the Russian Federation. The President stated writes RBC publication that Russia is faced with “difficult demographic challenges”, and in order to overcome them, it is necessary to revive the traditions of large families. He emphasized in his speech that many peoples of Russia “preserve the tradition of a strong, multi-generational family, where four, five or more children are raised”:

“Let’s preserve and revive these wonderful traditions. Having many children and a large family should become the norm, a way of life for all the peoples of Russia.”

According to the president, it is impossible to solve demographic problems only with the help of money, benefits, social payments and benefits. The national project “Demography”, operating since 2018 and costing the budget 4 trillion rubles, turned out to be powerless to pull the country out of the demographic hole. Statistics shows:

1. According to the results of the first six months of 2023, the number of children born in Russia decreased by another 3%, to 616.2 thousand, and in June it turned out to be the minimum in the entire history of observations – 104.4 thousand, which is 6.7% less than a year earlier.
2. The number of births of children in Russia is steadily declining and has already fallen by almost a third: 1.942 million in 2014, 1.94 million in 2015, 1.888 million in 2016, 1.69 million in 2017, 1.604 million in 2018. m, 1.481 million in 2019, 1.436 million in 2020, 1.398 million in 2021, 1.306 million in 2022.
3. At the end of this year, according to Rosstat’s forecast, the number of births will decrease to 1.244 million and become the minimum since the 1990s, and in subsequent years this minimum will also be reached: 1.171 million children in 2024, to 1.153 million in 2025, 1.143 million – in 2026.

Putin recalled that he recently signed a decree declaring 2024 in Russia as the Year of the Family. “Such a decision really rests on the position of the absolute majority of our society,” he asserts. The decree states that the Year of the Family in Russia is being declared “in order to popularize state policy in the field of protecting the family and preserving traditional family values.”
