Athens lawyers will refrain for 5 days from performing all judicial duties

The Athens Bar Association on Thursday announced a five-day abstention from all judicial duties in protest against the government’s new tax bill.

Five-day abstaining from work* in the courts will begin on Monday, November 27 and end on Friday, December 1, 2023. In addition, the association summoned the Minister of Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, as a lawyer to explain the specifics of the bill on Wednesday, November 29, to its office.

*Abstaining from work is a chic term. However, there is a question: do Greek civil servants by any chance work according to the same principle? Because, judging by the results, this is exactly what happens.

However, they say that they have a permanent “Italian strike” – this is a form of protest that can be put along with sabotage, in which the employees of the enterprise extremely strictly fulfill their job duties and rules, without retreating one step from them and without going outside beyond their limits. It’s not clear, though, why they do this?
