Traffic restrictions in Athens due to the Authentic Marathon


Traffic restrictions will be in place early Saturday morning and will remain in place until late Sunday evening for the annual Authentic Marathon and other smaller events over the weekend.

Cyclists and pedestrians are prohibited from riding on the streets where race participants will pass, or crossing these streets during the race.

In particular, in Athens, it is prohibited to park cars on some streets until 20.30, police said.

On Saturday, two consecutive 10 km races will start from Amalias Avenue in Syntagma Square to the Panathenaic Stadium between 17:00 and 20:00. Among the streets where the races will take place are Panepistimiou, Mesogion, Pheidippidou and Herodou Attikou.

On Sunday, the marathon route will run along Marathonos Avenue to the Panathenaic Stadium via Mesogion, Michalakopoulou, and Vass avenues. Sophias to Herod Attiki from 9.00 to 17.45.

Also on Sunday from 8.15 to 10 am there will be a 5 km race along Panepistimiou, Akadimias streets and in the area of ​​NIMITS hospital, and from 10.30 to 10.47 there will be a 1200 m children’s race along Herodou Attiki Street. These races will block Amalias and Vassilisis Sophias avenues on Syntagma.

In addition, local municipalities will hold short children’s races in the participating cities of the marathon.
