ΕΛΑΣ: 84% of burglaries are Roma

The police provided revealing and detailed information, providing a clear picture of an important social issue. Some talk about racism, but the evidence is relentless and simply reflects reality.

In particular, the report data became known ΕΛΑΣ about crime, according to which the majority of the country’s residents involved in thefts and robberies are gypsies! The report includes data on organized crime for 2021, which states that Roma people make up the vast majority of gang members (71%). This percentage gets even higher (84%) when it comes to theft and robbery.

Another very interesting element is composition of foreign criminal groupswho are confirmed to come mainly from Albania, Georgia, Algeria and Pakistan, the publication writes newsbreak.gr.

In 2021, 157 criminal gangs with 1,081 members were dismantled in Greece. The main criminal activity of the majority of these groups (104) was burglary, 30 car thefts and 23 robberies. The majority of “local groups”, 71% (in other words, more than 70), consisted of Roma.

Of even greater interest is origins of members of criminal gangs who committed thefts and robberies in 2021. Among Greek criminal groups, those that are overwhelmingly composed of Roma (84%) occupy a dominant position.

ΕΛΑΣ states in a related report: “These (Gypsy) groups generally have a semi-hierarchical structure, and their members, for the most part, maintain kinship (and/or friendship) relationships with each other.” Of course, this is clearly visible from the views of the Roma who have committed criminal offenses. Most of them have the same last name or are related to some extent.

IN foreign criminal groups predominate Georgians (39%). The main feature is that their members are exclusively compatriots. Albanian criminal groups follow with 33%. These are either purely Albanian or “mixed” groups of people from other countries.

Thefts and break-ins occur in homes, shops and public transport. In addition, the ΕΛΑΣ report includes crimes such as “ATM explosions.” Six gangs specializing in this type of crime were caught by the police. The attackers blew up ATMs using the PLOFKRAK method, as well as using dynamite or special equipment, mainly in the morning, throughout Greece.

As for the actions of burglars, they have been found to enter houses through unprotected balcony doors or windows. In other cases, thefts are committed by persons who, posing as employees of electrical networks, tax inspectors, elevator operators, fruit and carpet sellers, etc., enter houses and, distracting the owners, steal valuables and money.

In stores, criminals operate mainly at night – after midnight, cutting, lifting or punching blinds and even breaking windows.
