4 Fruit Combinations You Should Avoid


Fruit salads are tasty and healthy. However, did you know that not all of them go well together, and sometimes we risk facing digestive problems if we don’t make the right combinations of them.

Many people have heard about the benefits of fruits, how they improve the condition of skin, hair and nails. Hundreds of diets advise those losing weight to replace all sweets in their diet with fruits and berries. But is this advice really true? Or should you be more careful when choosing food products and their combinations in one plate?

Here are some tips from the experts.

  • Avoid eating watermelon and cantaloupe with other fruits. Fruits like melon and watermelon are digested faster than others and have a high water content. Combining them with other fruits may affect their absorption (digestion).
  • Avoid combining fruits that are high in protein and starch. Some fruits contain large amounts of starch, such as various types of bananas, dried figs, and apples. These fruits should not be combined with high protein fruits such as guava, dried apricots, kiwi, avocado and blueberries. The reason is that the body needs an acid base to digest proteins and an alkaline base to break down starch, and the combination of the above does not help.
  • Don’t combine sour and sweet. Sour fruits such as grapefruits, strawberries, apples, pomegranates and peaches should never be combined with sweet ones such as bananas and raisins. This combination often leads to digestive problems such as nausea, headaches, and acidosis (excess acids in the blood).
  • Don’t combine papaya with lemon. This may seem strange, but it is a fact. This “salad” can cause anemia and hemoglobin imbalance. This can be dangerous, especially when it comes to children.
