A father killed his daughter, who had multiple sclerosis, with his own hands because he “could no longer see her suffer.” He later tried to commit suicide with a gun.
“I killed her. I could no longer see her in this state, suffering from her illness…“With these words, the 69-year-old father justified his action to his son and admitted to the police that his daughter Katerina suffered from multiple sclerosis, was in serious condition and was suffering from her illness.
A family tragedy unfolded on the evening of Tuesday October 24 when the 42-year-old woman’s brother came to visit her and found her dead. After examining the body, the medical examiner found signs indicating death by asphyxiation.
Since the father did not answer his phone calls, the son went to his home, where he found him bleeding on the floor with a wound to his stomach. The man was transferred to the General Hospital of Thessaloniki, where he is receiving medical care. The victim, confined to a wheelchair, lived in Sikies (Thessaloniki), and was cared for by her father and a nurse.
Antonis Yatrou, head of the Stefanino community in Thessaloniki, says: “It was a very quiet family. The girl’s mother died of cancer about 20 years ago. And I remember that everything happened “behind closed doors.” A little later, the girl also fell ill. “She suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years. The last time I saw them was when I became the head of the community again. My father worked in our village on some kind of work,” he says, shocked by the brutal crime.
The preliminary investigation into the tragedy is being conducted by the Thessaloniki Security Directorate.
