A 38-year-old man from Crete was slacklining* and died after losing his balance on a tightrope.
By message newsbeast.gr, in Agiofarago this sport is very popular. Festos Antonis Konstantulakis, deputy mayor for civil protection of the municipality, said that climbers and adventure lovers come here for this reason. They tie a rope from one mountain peak to another, trying to cover the distance along it.
As a child, many could watch the performance of tightrope walkers in the circus. Balancing and performing exciting stunts by tightrope walkers on a tightrope, at a huge height under the circus dome, evoked both fear and delight. Some spectators had a desire to test themselves and try to walk over the abyss on a tight rope.
And if earlier this was only possible by enrolling in a circus school and acquiring the profession of a tightrope walker, today, thanks to the entire slacklining industry, anyone can try to walk on a tight line, and for many, “slack” has become a favorite hobby and even a sport.
*Translated from English, “slackline” means a sagging line. The idea is to walk and balance on a tight line and perform all sorts of tricks on it.
