The New York Times claims that due to the weather, Israel postponed the start of the ground operation.
Citing Israeli army sources, NYT writesthat the invasion was originally planned for the weekend but was delayed several days due to cloud cover that “would have made it difficult for Israeli pilots and drone operators to provide air cover for ground forces.”
During a special operation, Israeli strike forces will include tanks, sappers and special forces in addition to infantry. Ground forces will be covered by combat aircraft, helicopters, drones and artillery, which will fire from land and sea. The goal of the operation is the defeat of Hamas and the elimination of its leaders responsible for the attack on Israel on October 7.
On October 14, the Israel Defense Forces reported that fighters had killed Merad Abu Merad, one of the main men responsible for the attack. Later, it was reported that the commander of the Hamas Nukhba special forces company, who led the Hamas attack on Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip last weekend, was killed.
