New identity cards: AFM plus three digits will be the citizen’s personal number


Speaking about the future with the entry of high technologies into it, Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou in an interview on the channel Open noted that “tomorrow is wallet.”

The new mobile application, after approval by citizens, will help you move in the environment (live life to the fullest), carry out planned activities and tasks without presenting any documents.

“Wallet” is an application installed on the iPhone that replaces the usual wallet. You can add bank credit/debit/prepaid cards, bonus and discount loyalty cards for stores, salons, coffee shops, etc. to Apple Wallet.

Dimitris Papastergiou called the introduction citizen’s personal number major reform: “This will be our taxpayer identification number plus three digits. Using this number, which will appear (and will be assigned to citizens) in December, a citizen will be able to make any transactions with the state. The personal number will be recorded on the new identity cards from mid-December.”

As Mr. Papastergiou noted, The citizen will choose his personal number himself, since “he will open the platform on gov.gr and choose his personal number.”

The minister spoke about the use of technology in the fight against extreme weather events, as he said it can give us an early forecast, and in the case of fires, “with laser systems you can get a quick signal of what might happen in some distant area. We are already testing such systems so that in the next period we will have them in operation,” the official noted, adding that “from May 1, all this will be in electronic form. The citizen will know that his site must be clean (without dead wood, during fire periods). The person will receive a message, and if he does not clear his territory, the municipality will automatically (and electronically) impose a fine.”

Regarding the Smart Cities program, the minister noted that it allows each municipality to see its needs. In this regard, “over the next two years, he must implement solutions that will make life easier for citizens.”
