The Olympic Games in France may be surrounded by… bedbugs (video)

In France, the fight against bedbugs has reached a new level – public transport is “patrolled” by sniffer dogs. Experts also warn residents of Greece about the danger.

On the eve of the Olympics, the Paris authorities are seriously concerned about the fight against bedbugs – they deny reports of a massive invasion of them, but promise to respond to every signal. How writes Euronews, the country’s population is extremely concerned, but the Ministry of Transport is calling for calm. In particular, the French Minister of Transport Clément Bonnet says:

“Sometimes the reports are due to the fact that there is a lot of talk about it, but we must take them seriously. There have been about ten reports, all of them have been checked and not a single case has been confirmed. The SNCF has registered 37 complaints on trains in the last few days , we checked them, but found no insects.”

French trains and Parisian public transport, including the metro, will be checked by sniffer dogs. The country’s authorities are taking action after numerous reports from citizens about bedbugs.

Pest control companies are reporting an increase in demand for their services, and some passengers on public transport are now scrutinizing their seats or preferring to ride while standing.

You should also worry about bed bugs in Greece. warn ΣΕΑΜΕ specialists: “We are talking about an insect traveler, it can easily penetrate luggage.” Giorgos Lamprou, President of the Greek Association of Pest Control Companies, says that in addition to the fact that bed bugs travel with tourists, several cases have also been observed in the tourist areas of our country. However, bed bugs have always been a problem. He explains:

“Basically, we are talking about an insect traveler, that is, it can easily penetrate luggage and thus be transported anywhere in the world, anywhere. It can also be found in public transport, i.e. on ships, planes or even buses. The bedbug will seek out hard-to-reach places to build a nest, which is why in some cases we see extensive bite lesions that can be described as “gasma” (“γάζωμα”). We can see them in hotels, in camps, in reception centers for refugees and immigrants, even in apartments. That is, this is a classic example – an apartment where a bedbug was discovered after a trip or after a conscript returned from service.”

Mr. Lampru advises not to panic:

“We shouldn’t panic. This is something that can be resolved. There are complex solutions. You should not take extreme measures, much less put your health at risk. There are cases where we have witnessed the reckless use of chemicals by individuals on surfaces that come into contact with the skin, such as sofas, mattresses, chairs, etc. We have also observed spraying. In my opinion, this is unjustified.”

He explained that bed bugs occur mainly in the summer season, when there is an increased flow of population, not only in the center of Athens, but throughout Greece, in tourist areas.
