Relatives of woman killed in meat grinder accuse business owner

The terrible death of 50-year-old Anna, who came from Albania to Greece to work and was eventually cut into pieces by a meat grinder in the central butcher shop of the city of Mesolongi, shocked the country’s public.

The tragedy occurred in front of the 18-year-old daughter, whom her mother took with her to work as an assistant. The unfortunate woman began to wash the vat cutter (special equipment that grinds and mixes raw meat with additives and spices, giving it a uniform consistency). Apparently, in order to better clean the equipment, the woman bent over the cutter, and it is unclear how the protection (safety valve) turned off, and her hair was wrapped around the knives of the meat grinder, pulling the unfortunate woman into the vat.

The daughter came running to the mother’s heart-rending screams. Being in a state of shock and panic, not knowing what to do or how to save her mother, the girl ran outside and began to call for help. When rescuers arrived at the workshop, the worker was dead.

The butcher shop owner’s family hid the fact that the foreign woman was not insured (worked illegally) and, according to her family’s complaint, did not even participate (did not cover the woman’s funeral expenses), although she publicly promised to do so.

More specifically, the sister of the deceased told reporters her version of what happened: “The butcher did not answer a single phone call from the family of Anna, a worker who died horribly while cleaning the meat grinder.”

Speaking on the Tlive show, the sister of Anna, who tragically died in front of her daughter, complained: “Everyone knew my sister. She meekly “fought for life” and was forced to go to Greece to earn money, taking her children with her. She faced all adversity with a smile, What upsets me is that no one from the family where my sister worked picked up the phone and told us: “We are with you, we are here,” even if they were not going to help us in any way. “Only one wreath from them was at my sister’s funeral. The fact that they took on the costs of her funeral is a lie. I, my brothers and sisters paid. There is evidence of this. I have no words, I am ashamed of what they say,” – said the woman.

“Lord, I don’t know what to do with her daughter now. She will never cope with this in her life. This is too hard for a child. We are all trying to support her, because she has us, we are close,” said the aunt of the 18-year-old girls.

The Mesolonghi Employment Center now says the woman was working without insurance in a butcher shop. Authorities are calling for an investigation. “We must take it for granted that we will support the children of the deceased in any way (psychological, financial), and, of course, there will be free legal support from the relevant trade union bodies,” the administration of E.K.M noted in a statement.
