Oncologist from public hospital Theagenio in Thessaloniki demanded a bribe from his cancer patients in exchange for accelerated operations. On October 2, his trial took place.
The doctor was arrested in January 2019, with the help of lamrayed bills, after one of the patients complained to the authorities that she had to give a bribe to speed up the operation.
“My husband offered him 300 euros as“ gratitude ”, but he said that I could do an operation for 1000 euros,” the woman said on Monday of the State Television and Radio Company ERT.
During the investigation, it turned out that the doctor received bribes in the amount of up to 1,500 euros from each at least 17 of his patients. On Monday, the trial of the doctor was postponed for the fourth time, which caused the new suffers of the victims.
