The people who run the Polygyros olive farming cooperative in Chalkidiki were left speechless when they discovered that unknown people had stolen 37 tons of olive oil, causing damage worth hundreds of thousands of euros.
Given the wild trajectory of olive oil prices, scammers have come up with the idea of “earning money for free.” The attackers decided to make good money from profits from “green gold,” as the Greeks call olive oil.
The theft occurred unnoticed by everyone, through a room where 200-300 tons of olive oil were stored from producers – members of the agricultural cooperative for the production of olive oil “Polygyros”.
About 200 butter producers were horrified when they discovered the cooperative’s barrels were empty. The theft is equivalent to a financial disaster, since the value of 37 tons of olive oil is equivalent to almost 400,000 euros!
The only thing they could do was file a lawsuit against the unknown parties, and Polygyros Security is investigating the case in hopes of identifying the criminals before they sell the oil and illegally enrich themselves.
