Gift from the City Hall of Athens to the children of the Greek capital

The Greek capital has turned into one large play area – more than forty playgrounds, renovated and completely new, have opened for children in Athens.

They are distinguished by impeccable quality, safety, attractiveness and variety of equipment. All of them have a special sign of suitability for use, a certificate of conformity from an accredited regulatory body.

Most of the playgrounds are intended for infants, toddlers and preschool children, and are accessible to children with disabilities, so that everyone can find something to their liking and play without any discrimination.

Municipality of Athens, writes newsbeast.gr, continues to implement the plan to modernize city playgrounds: 32 have been renovated, construction of 4 is being completed, and 3 more are being prepared. That is, children living in the center of the capital will have 40 modern and safe playgrounds.

The construction of playgrounds is based on the necessary functional needs to promote both the evolutionary process of children in the social, motor, creative and emotional dimensions, as well as the development of perception, thinking and spontaneity. The play equipment is made of wood and metal and successfully harmonizes with the surrounding space, contributing to the development of children’s environmental consciousness.

The playgrounds are built to be as injury-free as possible and the area has metal fencing and is accessible to emergency vehicles. They have modern city equipment, new waste baskets, benches, and information signs for parents and children. The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, notes:

“Creativity and imagination are combined with play and a smile. Each of the playgrounds is a separate “nest” of play, allowing every little city dweller to have pleasant experiences, communication, improvement of their skills, and freedom. Through planning and persistence, we are giving our children the vital space they rightly claim in the city.”
