The battle with fire continues on Evros and Andros, the situation is improving in Boeotia and Phthiotis – the latest data from the fire department.
Extinguishing fires in Evros and Andros continued last night. The main fire front in Evros is located in the Leptokaria region, new fires occurred at night in Dadia. Strong ground forces, volunteer firefighters and the military are participating in firefighting operations on Evros, with the first rays of the sun, 4 aircraft and 3 helicopters started extinguishing.
The fire, probably caused by lightning yesterday morning on the island of Andros, continues. The efforts of the firefighters are concentrated on the front near Vitali. 73 firefighters, 3 groups of foot crews, 18 vehicles are working on the spot, 2 aircraft and 2 helicopters provide air support.
Several fires were recorded in Parnit at night, mainly on its southwestern side, near Φρούριο της Φυλής, where 2 helicopters have been working since morning. According to the fire department, the situation with the fire that broke out on Saturday at noon in a remote area in Lokro Fthiotida has improved. The situation in Viotia, where small fires have occurred in the Steyri area, is also encouraging.
On Sunday, August 27, the fire danger in many parts of the country remains high, warns iefimerida.gr. Territory fire personnel are on standby to cope with the increased demands resulting from the high number of fires. Patrols continue: from the air, as well as by fire, police and military forces.
