Thousands of animals caught in a fire trap died in fires in Europe

In European countries, fires are raging, people are being evacuated, and thousands of pets are lost, end up on the street and would probably die without the help of volunteers.

The combination of heat waves and fires that have engulfed the countries of Southern Europe is taking human lives. Extreme weather is observed in twenty countries of the continent. Those who cannot protect themselves, such as pets and wild animals, also die and suffer. Only in Greece, thousands of animals were trapped in a fiery trap, many of them died.

In the north-west of the Greek capital, in the Athenian district of Ano Liossia, volunteers rescued dozens of pets – cats, dogs, turtles. Without their care and kind hands, the animals that lost their owners would most likely simply die.

In Tenerife, Spain, special shelters have been set up for victims and their pets. Animal owners say:

Dogs, of course, experience stress, they are not in their usual environment. When they see an unfamiliar dog, it worries them, but in general everything is in order. Here my dog has everything he needs, and thank God, because we did not manage to take out much.

Volunteers readily look after the dogs if the owners need to leave. One of them, Andres Hernandez, says:

“When dog owners need to go outside, get some air, we walk the dogs, and people can get a little disconnected from the” confinement “, change the situation.”

Unfortunately, forest fires around the world ruthlessly kill millions of fauna, many of which are rare endemic and endangered species.
