Staff at the Fanon Hotel in Rhodes spotted a 20-year-old German tourist coming out of a spot where a reed had caught fire a few minutes earlier. It is noteworthy that another fire broke out in the same place two days ago.
The young foreigner, who was in a state of intoxication, was noticed by the workers of the hotel where he was staying, a few minutes after the fire broke out. The guy tried to hide near the place where the flames broke out. The tourist was detained by firefighters, who quickly arrived at the hotel block and proceeded to immediately extinguish the fire, and also find out if he caused the previous fire.
According to the publication rodiaki.grin his statement to the investigation department of the Rhodes fire department, the German tourist claimed that he did not set the fire, and that he was accidentally found in the place where he broke out.
However, the Greek authorities received information from the German authorities, according to which he was also accused of arson in his homeland, which he was now charged with.
It is reported that on August 21, the island authorities quickly held a trial at which they sentenced a German citizen to 1 year in prison, with a three-year suspension of execution.
