Prolonged heat from an environment with a temperature of 40 ° C and above. When will it end

According to forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens, the country is waiting lingering heat with temperatures up to 42-44°C.

High temperatures are expected from Wednesday 12 JulI’m with peaking over a two-day period from Friday 14 July to Saturday 15 July. The maximum temperatures will reach 42-44°С.

According to meteorologists, after July 20 the temperature will drop slightly, to 35-37°C.

National Observatory of Athens recorded long waves of heatwhich took place during the period 1981–2022, from the deadly 1987 heat wave lasting 12 days to two 2021 heat waves lasting 11 days each.

Forecast for the coming days

Tuesday:

Generally clear weather.

The wind in the west will initially be variable, 3-4 points, and from noon westerly / north-westerly, in some places up to 5 points. In the east, the north wind will blow 3-5, and in the Aegean Sea 6 points.

The air temperature will rise slightly. On the mainland it will reach 37°С, in places 38°С, on the islands – 33-35°С.

WEDNESDAY
Clear weather.

The wind will blow from the north with an intensity of 3-5, and in the Aegean Sea locally 6 points on the Beaufort scale.

The temperature will rise slightly, mainly on the mainland, and will be high. In the north of the mainland, it will reach 35-37°C, in the central and southern parts – 37-38°C, in the interior of Thessaly and Central Greece – 39°C. On the island territory the temperature will be 33-35°С.

THURSDAY
Clear and hot weather.

North wind 3-5, and in the Aegean Sea locally 6 points on the Beaufort scale.

The temperature will rise slightly and remain high. On the mainland it will be 37-39°C, in the interior of Thessaly and Central Greece 40-41°C. On the islands, the air temperature is 35-37°C.

FRIDAY
Clear and very hot weather.

Wind from the north, force 3-5, and in the Aegean Sea locally 6 on the Beaufort scale.

The temperature will rise a little more and reach very high levels: on the mainland 39-41°C, and in the depths of Thessaly, Sterea and the Peloponnese 42°C and possibly 43°C. On the island territory, the temperature will reach 36-38°С, in some places 39°С.

SATURDAY

Clear and very hot weather.

The wind will blow from the north, its intensity will be 3-5 points, in the Aegean Sea in some places 6 points on the Beaufort scale.

The temperature will reach very high levels: on the mainland 40-43°C, in the depths of Thessaly, Sterea and the Peloponnese 43°C, possibly 44°C. On the island territory, the temperature will reach 36-39°C, in some places 40°C.
