Erdogan wants to join the EU

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with President Joe Biden and said that Ankara wants to revive the process of Turkey’s membership in EU.

During a telephone conversation, the two presidents discussed the situation with Sweden and Ukraine’s membership in NATO, as well as the supply of F-16 fighter jets, the Erdogan administration tweeted:

“During the talks, Ukraine’s position in NATO, Sweden’s membership in NATO, the supply of F-16 aircraft and the process of Turkey’s full membership in the European Union were discussed. The leaders of the two countries agreed to meet in person in Vilnius (at the NATO summit) and discuss bilateral relations in detail.”

During a telephone conversation, Erdogan said that despite the “correct” steps from Sweden, she still has little chance of getting into the alliance. This is due to the fact, emphasizes the Turkish leader, that Stockholm still allows the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, banned in Turkey, to freely hold demonstrations that “praise terrorism.”

Erdogan noted that Ankara wants to revive the process of Turkey’s membership in the EU and at the Vilnius summit he would like to hear from the leading countries and the leadership of the European Union a clear and decisive statement of support for Turkey’s membership.
