Avlona: "wild" fight between prisoners – eight wounded

According to police, four inmates of the juvenile detention center in Avlon have been identified as the perpetrators of a mass brawl that took place last Sunday.

According to police, four inmates at the Avlona prison have been named as the perpetrators of an incident that took place on Sunday evening in the courtyard of a juvenile correctional institution, as a result of which 8 people were injured.

A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Northeast Attica Security Service, which is investigating the causes of the collision, while the institution, by order of the General Secretariat for Anti-Crime Policy, is conducting an internal investigation.

According to the information available so far, the incident began in the courtyard of the penitentiary shortly before the prisoners entered their cells, and involved Albanians, Gypsies and Greeks on the one hand, and North African and Arab prisoners on the other. There was a real clash, as a result of which two Egyptians, three Syrians, an Algerian, a Pakistani and a Greek were injured.

All eight people were taken by ambulance to the Evangelismos hospital, from where seven left after receiving first aid, and one still remains hospitalized.

During the scuffle, the young prisoners set fire to the mattress, but in the end the incident was stopped by the prison guards, the police arrived at the scene, and the prisoners were dispersed into their cells. From the evidence currently available, it appears that the incident was initiated by two Greek citizens of Albanian origin and two other Greeks, one of whom was a gypsy, who appear in the case file being prepared by the Security Service for submission to the prosecutor.
