A 20-year-old military academy student died during a military training exercise at the “Unorthodox Military Training Center” in Redina, northern Greece, the Greek Army General Staff said on Friday.
The announcement notes that the student first lost consciousness during the exercise, and then, after first aid, was transferred to the Nea Maditos Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the soldier’s death. According to the General Staff, he was a Greek Cypriot. The General Staff statement says:
“The General Staff of the Army announces that in the morning hours of Friday, June 30, 2023, as part of the summer training of the Evelpidon Military School (SSE), at the Unorthodox War Training Center (KEAP), in Redina, the Greek Cypriot Evelpis IIac, X .G. The 20-year-old lost consciousness during a training event.The unit doctor immediately gave him first aid and, accompanied by medical personnel, took him to the Nea Maditos hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A proper investigation into the causes of the incident is currently underway. The General Staff of the Army expresses its regret over the death of Evelpi and sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
