K. Karamanlis met with K. Mitsotakis and asked to be released from participation in the new Cabinet of Ministers

A few days ago, New Democracy President Kyriakos Mitsotakis and former Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis met at the New Democracy office in Piraeus.

Mr. Karamanlis informed Mr. Mitsotakis about the very good progress of the electoral campaign in the Prefecture of Serres. Karamanlis asked the prime minister to release him from participation in the new cabinet, undertaking a moral obligation to be outside the government until the full investigation of the Tempi case and the responsibility of the judiciary.

Both agreed that since Karamanlis took the initiative to resign as minister immediately after the Tempe crime, he should not be involved in the government, given that the judicial investigation is still ongoing and it is likely that the case file will go to parliament.

Kostas Karamanlis won the vote in Serres and stressed in a statement that “the result of the election is a huge victory for New Democracy and personally for Kyriakos Mitsotakis”, stressing that Serres gave a “strong response to the intemperate personal attacks” he received.

As a reminder, Kostas Karamanlis March 2, 2023 resigned following the Tempi train crash that killed 57 people. The main cause of the disaster is said to be a non-functioning system for regulating the movement of railway transport and the human factor.
