The elections are over, the pre-election period has begun

Elections to the Greek parliament took place, but a new period of elections began, as in a few months local elections will follow, and in a year elections to the European Parliament, in which everyone and everyone will be judged again, and it will become clear who lived up to the expectations of citizens and who refuted them.

The 2023 Greek local elections are scheduled to take place on October 8, 2023, with a runoff scheduled for October 15. As for the elections to the European Parliament, a month ago the Council of Ministers EU confirmed that they will be held from 6 to 9 June 2024.

The local elections will be the first major test for the new Mitsotakis government and will show whether citizens will continue to trust him after the first months of rule. Municipalities and regions have historically been the first hotbeds of reaction against government policies that they do not like.

The next European election test will take place in a year and will have two features: firstly, it will be a free vote, and secondly, there will be a year of New Democracy. One year is enough to judge with certainty whether the government “pulls” or does not “pull”. But this time will also be enough to re-evaluate the opposition. Will she correct the mistakes that caused the citizens to “denigrate” her, which led to her collapse? After all, SYRIZA seems to suffer from a strange elitism and believe that they do everything perfectly, and the citizens are simply not able to understand their vision and do not vote for them…

Therefore, if in a year the opposition does not correct anything in its political behavior and in its program for the modernization of Greek society and the state, it will not only not receive any electoral gain, but, on the contrary, it will be possible to finally assert that it has been brought to political decline and reduction.

Citizens not only in Greece, but all over the world, in order to abandon the current government, want to know if there is a serious alternative that will replace it. Thus, until next summer, the country will experience a period of intense political struggle. How the New Democracy government handles it could determine whether it stays in power beyond a second four-year term.

After all, a gap of 22 points from the main rival is not covered in four years, unless the first game makes … crime. However, in Greece, even this does not guarantee that the government will resign – the example of the Mitsotakis government is obvious … Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis, who resigned after the tragedy in Tempi back in politics and is a newly elected Member of Parliament for the New Democracy in the prefecture of Serres. However, he remains wary of appointments and has asked Kyriakos Mitsotakis not to give him any position in the government, undertaking a moral obligation not to enter into its composition until the Tempi case is fully investigated and justice holds him accountable.
