Emergency alert in Thessaloniki: gas leak in Naples

In the area of ​​Neapolis in Thessaloniki, an alarm was sounded after a natural gas leak, which, according to the first information, was caused by an accident.

According to grtimes.gr, the contractor’s team, which was excavating the fiber optics, allegedly damaged an existing gas pipeline in the area, resulting in a massive natural gas leak. Firefighters and police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area at a distance of several meters, fearing an explosion.

It should be noted that the characteristic smell of gas was felt even at some distance from the scene. The gas pipeline was damaged at the intersection of Georgiou Seferis and L. Baironos streets. According to the fire department, responsibility for incident bears gas distribution company.

The guide emphasizes that Citizens have no reasons for concern and notes that the damage will be eliminated within 24 hours. The statement reads: “Today, 06/26/2023, as a result of work carried out by a third party at the intersection of Lord Byron and Georgiou Seferis streets in Neapolis (Thessaloniki), a low-pressure pipe of the gas distribution network broke. From the first moment, the competent on-duty teams of the EDA THESS immediate intervention structure went to the place and took full control of the situation by cutting off the gas. The supply of 273 consumers was disrupted, the full restoration of the functioning of the gas pipeline will be completed within a day. Residents of the region need not worry, as EDA THESS guarantees the safe and uninterrupted operation of the gas distribution network. The company will keep citizens informed of any further developments.”
